Canterbury Tools has joined Made in the Midlands to champion Midlands manufacturing along with 450+ other members, including the likes of Kuka Robotics, Schneider Electric and Lander Automotive. Whilst the company has been aware of the group for quite some time, challenges brought on by the pandemic has allowed the company to reorganise and make the most of networking opportunities with MIM.

Based in Walsall, established in 1976, Canterbury Tools produce high quality, innovative, well designed tooling utilising the best tool steels, processes, machinery and the latest 3D CAD CAM within competitive lead times. The company’s dedication to continuous investment in the latest technology machinery, 3D scanning, and reverse engineering software has allowed them to maintain top standards within the high-pressure subcontract tool-making industry.

The company recently joined Made in the Midlands after following the group for years. At the time when the company first discovered the group, they didn't feel they had the infrastructure to make the most out of networking opportunities. The general slowdown created by the pandemic has allowed Canterbury the time as a company to reorganise their structure and processes and therefore become part of the group. David Field, Managing Director of Canterbury Tools, said:

We are keen to interact with forward-thinking, innovative and progressive companies that we can utilise to enhance what we can offer to our existing customers. On the other hand, we would like to demonstrate the innovative and advanced processes we provide and have implemented recently to provide solutions to other group members.”

Being part of the Made in Group allows manufacturers to connect, share best practices and build invaluable connections across multiple sectors. The Made in the Midlands platform is number one on google for Midlands manufacturing, each member is offered a microsite attached to this domain - offering a platform for members to share content and build online exposure for their businesses.

The team at Canterbury Tool is looking forward to networking with like-minded individuals, as well as sharing their knowledge and experience that could benefit the manufacturing community in the Midlands. David added:

“It will also be interesting to hear how other companies go about their business and learn lessons from their experiences.”

Canterbury Tools would like to be seen as a champion of Midlands engineering and believes this can be accelerated by being part of Made in the Midlands. David concluded:

“Historically, the Midlands region has been a mecca of engineering knowledge, and it would be great to be a part, even in a small way, of continuing that legacy. We feel we can support other members on their journey as they look to grow and improve their businesses.”
